Permaculture Internship Program
Participants will learn the basics of permaculture design, installation and the key plants for the tropics , how to: build raised beds , ammend soils, sheet mulch, plant vegetables and trees, harvest, and preparation. MAPS has a small garden which will be expanded during the internship, We are involved with several farms in the neighborhood where lots of exotic tropical fruit and perennial greens may be available for harvest. Some food may be provided through our work on other local farms. Food is partially included depending on season and harvest.
The 6 week internship willl most likely include:
One 1.5 hour long introduction to permaculture class per week. Covering, Permaculture design principles, ethics, site layout, and much much more.
Two classes on community living skills, including an introduction to nonviolent communication.
3 four hour land dance(work session) per week on the land in permaculture related projects.
One permaculture related educational movie per week
At least one workday at AMA- large scale regenerative farming prototype plot.
Visiting a local aquaponics farm.
Site tours of at least two other farms or residences that are great examples of sustainable agriculture.
Crop swap on Tuesday's 5-6 pm at a farm walking distance up the road. (optional)
At least one trip to the local Sunday open air market. (optional)
Airport pickup and drop off is available either for $30. If multiple interns coordinate for a group pick up price drops to $20 each.

Neighborhood with many other farms and wwoofers
Pretty easy hitchhike to Pahoa town or 15 minutues by car.
Three day weekends every other week so you can explore the island if you wish.
Fuel efficient economy cars are available for rent for around $25 a day about 8 miles away.
