Class Description:
The goal of this series is to teach Hawaii residents how to efficiently grow their own food at home to provide a fresh organic balanced diet. From field or backyard to table all the crops necessary
will be covered including their: propagation, cultivation, harvest, preservation, and use. Permaculture principles and techniques focus on easy and practical ways to create food abundance at home!
This class series aims to increase food security and resiliency to natural disasters in Hawaii by re-localizing and diversifying our food supply. An improved diet with fresh, organic, pesticide free food, and the increased physical activity from gardening, provides health benefits to all ages. Home growers may be able to take excess crops to market and/or create value added products to generate income. Reductions in the transportation of food, can help decrease our carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions, vital in the deceleration of climate change..
These classes will cover many traditional Hawaiian crops and horticultural practices. Recently introduced edible plants from across the globe, that have been proven to thrive in Hawaii, will be highlighted as well. Recipes ideas, detailed instructions on preparation & cooking, and storage solutions, will help to seamlessly integrate these easy to grow, nutritious, and delicious plants into our daily diet.
